The Canadian furcon Vancoufur held Mar 2 – 5. But in the middle of which, they evacuated attendees. There’s was a police build-up at the convention hotel, local media reported.
Police also instructed attendees in the hotel ballroom “to stay in place,” Vancoufur said.
The furcon then confirmed someone from America made a police call, causing police build-up mentioned earlier.
But the call was deemed fradulent; it’s called “swatting.” The American number which called the police was also “spoofed,” Vancoufur added.
“Swatting” is an American slang term. It means someone called the police – with bad intent and/or as a prank – so they will get dispatched somewhere.
