GFTV OFFICIAL ANNOUNCEMENT

On November 11, 2023, a non-GFTV personnel was flying a CIO HelloSpot sign at a local fursuit outing in East Coast Park, Singapore.

This event was not a GFTV CE (Community Event).

The HelloSpot is one of GFTV’s community outreach instrument used at publicly visible events. With variations of it flown around town i.e. MeetSpot, the signs are for the sole purposes of ushering and facilitating new community members.

Important details

1. I deployed the HelloSpot. I was handling Roche, a GFTV CCS member, who was fursuiting then.

2. The local fursuit outing changed their meeting spot three times. This resulted in some attendees who arrived to the park getting lost. As I received multiple simultaneous phone calls for directions, I deployed the HelloSpot in response to this situation.

3. The weather was very windy that time. On my right hand, I held the HelloSpot. At the same time, to cool down Roche who was fursuiting, I held a fursuit fan on my left hand. The windy weather had me hold the HelloSpot sign against my shoulder with my head, resulting in an awkward posture.

4. A non-GFTV personnel, aged 13, who is an attendee at this event, approached me. For privacy reasons, this non-personnel will be called “Casper”.

5. Casper asked me if he can hold the HelloSpot sign as a means to free the latter’s hands. I agreed for him to hold the sign, without the expectation that Casper would run around to fly the sign. Not long after, Casper was out of my sight; he ran around with the sign.

6. It was found out that Casper was mistaken as someone knowledgeable about the fursuit outing. It was due to him holding the HelloSpot sign. He was apparently questioned by members of the public about the event, which turned out to distress him. I eventually apologised to Casper in private over this.

Measures to be taken in response

First launched at LIFC 2023 as experiments, the HelloSpot and Group signs are very successful. But because there had never been written guidelines for proper usage of our outreach signs, GFTV must step up.

By end-2023, I will officially codify guidelines for all of GFTV CIO’s community outreach instruments, including the HelloSpot. These rules will be put into our first organisational constitution. This will affirm organisation-wide that only GFTV’s personnel can hold these signs at all times unless approved prior.

I hope that codifying these policies will prevent incidents like this one as detailed above. On behalf of this Team, I’m sorry for any unintended inconveniences caused.

Stay safe. Have a great and wonderful floofy day.
