US politician propose “banning” furries from schools

A law proposal was raised in the US state of Oklahoma.

On Jan 18, 2024 (Thursday), State Rep. Justin Humphrey of the Republican Party raised up House Bill 3084.

The bill aims to specifically ban furries from participating in school curriculum or activities.

If the bill is passed, student offenders will be brought out of school by animal control if a parent or guardian does not pick them up.

Students who purport to be an imaginary animal or animal species, or who engage in anthropomorphic behavior commonly referred to as furries at school shall not be allowed to participate in school curriculum or activities.

The parent or guardian of a student in violation of this section shall pick the student up from the school, or animal control services shall be contacted to remove the student.

Section 1 of House Bill 3084
Oklahoma House of Representatives

Rep. Humphrey said there were reports of students engaging in “animal-like behaviour” to justify his proposal. He did not give specific examples.

One of those behaviour included the “litter boxes for furries in schools” claim. But this claim was proven false, and the politician who brought it up apologised for it.

On of Feb 19, 2024 (Monday), the bill was amended by State Rep. Jim Olsen of the Republican Party, a listed “sponsor” of the bill.

The amended bill’s content, first seen Jan 3, 2024 (Wednesday) as HB 2962, now proposes to display the “Ten Commandments” in all of Oklahoma’s public schools.

The bill’s original writing on furries is no longer considered.

Beginning with the 2024-2025 school year, every public school shall display in a conspicuous place in each classroom of the school a durable poster or framed copy of the Ten Commandments that meets the requirements of subsection B of this section.

Section 1a of House Bill 3074 (Substitute)
Oklahoma House of Representatives

The “Ten Commandments” are a set of religious principles from the Bible, the sacred literature of Christianity.

Two days later on Feb 21, 2024 (Wednesday), HB 3084 is under committee consideration.

It is still the case as of Mar 11, 2024 (Monday).

This incident is now one of the few examples in the US where officials have proposed unfriendly laws against furries in their legislatures.
