Furry Tea Party 2024, held from April 13th to 14th, marked a unique milestone as the world’s first furry convention held in a public library.

The Kaohsiung Public Main Library in Taiwan provided a spacious and unexpected venue for the event, which faced a last-minute change due to unforeseen problems with the initially planned hotel.
Organizer Haneneko, in a joint interview with GFTV and FurTimes, revealed that the team had only three months to re-orchestrate the entire event.
They ultimately selected the library due to its ample space and convenient location adjacent to many nearby hotels, including the TAI Urban Resort hotel – even though a formal partnership with the hotel could not be established.
The convention opened with a surprise visit from local government officials, including Kaohsiung Mayor Chen Chi-mai and members of Taiwan’s legislative assembly. The politicians’ presence drew significant media attention.
News crews and reporters then roamed the event, capturing the colourful spectacle of fursuiters and engaging attendees in interviews.
Attendees were pleased by the government officials’ participation, with many noting the positive contrast to potential reactions in other parts of the globe.

Beyond the political buzz, Furry Tea Party offered a diverse range of activities, including themed skits, energetic dance performances by Wannabeast, and panel discussions featuring the Taiwan Guide Dog Association and renowned furry artist B.Cat.
The event’s theme, “Adventurers’ Feast,” was brought to life with numerous quests available at the library’s first floor.
As part of the furcon’s themed activity, participants complete quests to earn points and compete for the top spot on the leaderboard, earning special titles and trophies.

Additionally, the organizers collaborated with several organizations, including Kaohsiung Metro, a local LARP (live action roleplay) group, and an indoor archery range, to enhance the theme’s immersiveness.
Participants could complete quests at these locations while also supporting these organizations.
Some staff volunteers also read stories to children in fursuits at the library so to cultivate an interest for reading, Haneneko said.
A unique aspect of the event was the “Adventurers’ Cafe,” a volunteer-run cafe serving themed pastries and beverages. Attendees praised the cafe’s offerings.
The convention culminated in a fursuit group photo, with hundreds of fursuiters gathering on the lawn between the library and the TAI Urban Resort hotel.

Day two of the convention featured the “Furry In Metro” fursuit walk, a parade that wound its way through the city streets and onto the metro.
The weather stood above 30 degrees Celsius at the time. Despite so, fursuiters armed themselves with fans as they marched down the streets, drawing smiles and waves from onlookers.
The parade concluded at Formosa Boulevard station, home to the world’s largest glass art installation, where fursuit games and another Wannabeast performance took place.
Furry Tea Party 2024 was a success.
It raised 120,050 TWD for charity, attracting over 25,000 attendees – which include an estimated number of public visitors to the library, and 1,096 registered attendees. There were 349 fursuiters.

Looking ahead to 2025, the convention has announced the theme “The Nocturnal Walkers,” inspired by the Japanese folklore of Hyakki Yagyō, which tells of a night parade of one hundred demons in a world where humans and ghosts live together.
This theme symbolizes the intersection of furries’ daily lives with their life in the furry community and promises another unforgettable gathering in Kaohsiung.
