Fudi (Interviewer): We see you’ve chosen the Wanyi Panorama Hotel as the venue this time. What advantages does this hotel offer that made you decide to hold the event here?
Fierykylin (Interviewee): We visited and compared several hotels in the early stages of planning. We found that many high-end hotels, such as Empark Grand Hotel Guiyang, weren’t as cooperative. Wanyi Hotels is a well-established four-star hotel located near the Shilihetan Scenic Area This aligns well with our “Midsummer Tree Shade” theme for this event, as we have some outdoor activities planned. Overall, this hotel was very cooperative, has a pleasant environment, and can accommodate the needs of QFC, which is why we ultimately chose it.
Fudi: How did you come up with the theme “Midsummer Tree Shade”? How will the event express this theme? Are there any fun things designed around the theme?
Fierykylin: The event is in August, right in the middle of summer, when most people are on summer vacation. We wanted to offer an opportunity to enjoy the outdoors and escape the heat. Guiyang’s summer temperatures average around 27 degrees Celsius, which is quite pleasant, so our slogan is “Experience the 27-degree midsummer together.” As for the “Tree Shade” aspect, we’ve partnered with the Shilihetan Scenic Area to organise outdoor activities that embody this theme.
Fudi: In your opinion, should furcons like QFC focus more on interacting with the general public, or should they cater primarily to just furries?
Fierykylin: I believe furry conventions are inherently social platforms. Communication between organisers and attendees, and that among attendees are equally crucial. I think furry conventions should innovate, constantly explore new ways to engage attendees more. We shouldn’t be confined in a small circle where everyone does their own thing; that would lead to stagnation and homogenization.
Fudi: Are there any plans for the next QFC? Could you share some details?
Fierykylin: We’re planning to hold the next QFC directly within a scenic area, rather than just near one. It will be a smaller, more exclusive gathering, limited to around 100 people, almost like a large, free tour group. We can’t reveal too many specifics at this point.
Fudi: What feedback have you received about the hotel or the event itself this time?
Fierykylin: The main issue we identified, and which was also brought up by many attendees, was a shortage of staff. We had ten staff members on-site, but with 200 attendees, that’s a ratio of 20 to 1, which proved insufficient. Wanda Vista Hotel has been very cooperative, and we’ve received positive feedback about the hotel experience itself.
Fudi: What kind of creature is the official mascot, Yanyan? Does it have a backstory?
Fierykylin: Yanyan is a dog. We’re still working on its backstory and the overall theme narrative. Its colour scheme is green, drawing inspiration from the lush green mountains and clear waters of Guizhou. The primary colours are green and grey, with black accents representing the stones of Guizhou. The karst landforms here feature sedimentary rocks with black sections and weathering patterns, so the colours symbolise the landscapes and rocks of Guizhou.
Fudi: Does QFC have any plans to expand beyond Guizhou, to other provinces or even nationwide?
Fierykylin: Our current focus is on the southwest region, but we do have plans to expand nationwide in the future. We intend to hold large-scale national furcons. At present, most of our attendees are from the southwest.
