Furry Migration 2024 took place from 6th to 8th September at the Hyatt Regency Minneapolis.
The convention spanned two floors of the hotel: the 1st floor hosted Main Events and the Dealers’ Den, while the 2nd floor accommodated the rest of the panel rooms and Registration.
Highlights and Events
The convention began with a bang, offering surprises and activities from start to finish. A notable event was the Fursuit Walk, held twice during the weekend.
The first walk occurred the day before the official opening and saw nearly 200 participants. The second walk, held on the first day, was equally popular.
Attendees of the “First-Time Attendee” panel were granted early access to the Opening Ceremony, which set the tone for the weekend with humour and excitement.
Guests of honour
The guests of honour this year were Avian Invasion, Confetti Prince, and Saberspark.
Saberspark, a well-known YouTuber, brought significant energy to the event. His panels were so popular that an additional last-minute panel was scheduled on Sunday at 3 pm in the Main Events hall.
Despite the impromptu nature, the panel drew a massive crowd, with many attendees standing or waiting outside the event space.
Iconic events
The annual Fursuit Parade was another major highlight, attracting just as many, if not more, participants as the Fursuit Walk. The parade spanned both floors of the convention and was a visual spectacle.
Dance events, a hallmark of any furry convention, were in high demand. Unique events like “The Church of Garf,” a humorous tribute to Garfield the Cat, and specialised workshops on sketching, fursuit-making, and tea appreciation added variety to the programming. Photography enthusiasts enjoyed tips on maximising their smartphone cameras.
Night-time brought the convention-sanctioned raves, which kept the energy alive well into the early hours.
Unique activities
The convention catered to niche interests, such as the StreetPass Meet for 3DS users. Despite the 3DS being obsolete, the event drew 75 attendees, some of whom acquired a 3DS just to participate. Other gaming-related offerings included rooms dedicated to video games and board games, boasting an impressive selection.
Creative competitions like the “Iron Man” sketch and writing contest showcased attendees’ talents. The Fursuit Games concluded with an exhilarating Tug-o-War, and Nerf Wars brought additional thrills to the weekend.
Results
Furry Migration 2024 welcomed 2,493 attendees and raised US$8,042 for charity.
What’s up next?
As the convention wrapped up, attendees were already buzzing about next year’s theme: “The Gala”, to come Sept 5 – 7, 2025.
