Singaporean furry media channel Global Furry Television (GFTV) has released its annual review of furry conventions using data from its Furcon Status Tracker (FURST), which has monitored events worldwide since 2020.
For 2024, FURST recorded 170 conventions completed and 27 cancelled.
According to the Furry Charity Index, compiled by Dutch creator Thabo Meerkat, the furry community donated nearly US$2 million to charity last year — the highest total since 2020.

China now leads the world in number of furcons
FURST data shows that 31 new events debuted in China in 2024, bringing the total to 60 conventions held annually.
This places China ahead of the United States, which hosted 54 events in the same year.
FURST’s tracking also shows a rise in event frequency. For example in China, during peak months from July to October, five to six conventions may run during the same weekend.
GFTV understands that these are often timed with school holidays and public breaks, such as China’s National Day.

Asia continues steady growth
Since 2020, Asia has seen consistent year-on-year growth in furry events.
By comparison, events in North America and Europe faced more closures during the same period as organisers adjusted to post-pandemic conditions.
Southeast Asia continued to expand as well.
Vietnam’s Furry Gathering in Vietnam (FurGiV) held its first edition in 2024, and Malaysia’s second furcon Borneo Anthro Hub (BAH) is set to debut in 2026.
Furcon organisers in the region told GFTV that more new events may be announced later this year.

Looking ahead to 2025
Based on current patterns, GFTV FURST expects China’s furry convention scene to continue growing in both size and visibility.
Event organisers in Southeast Asia also anticipate more activity, reflecting the region’s increasing interest in furry events.
