Thai furcon SiamPaws has confirmed a data breach. Participant information was leaked to a third-party website.
The incident first came to light on Monday (June 9). The furcon’s Wikifur page was updated. It detailed the attendee data structure. A link, allegedly containing leaked data, was also posted there.
The edited Wikifur page claimed the leaked data included personal information like attendees’ real names. It also claims the leak was posted on X (formerly Twitter).
GFTV could not verify these claims.
By Wednesday (June 11), Wikifur administrators reversed the page edits. The data repository link now displays an error.
SiamPaws has since released an official statement. Upon discovery, they immediately asked the third-party website to remove the leaked information. They also successfully suspended user access to their platform.
SiamPaws assured participants: no payment information or user passwords have been compromised.
With all relevant evidence at hand, the SiamPaws team reported the incident to the Thai Personal Data Protection Committee (PDPC) and local police. The furcon says they will enhance their data protection systems to address this issue.
