Introduction
Global Furry Television (GFTV) produces coverage of events and community activities as part of its media work.
We follow a clear and consistent process for official coverage. Unless this process is followed, no activity should be treated as official GFTV coverage.
News and media coverage work is primarily handled by GFTV’s Media and News Division (MAWS).
What counts as official coverage
Official coverage refers to any activity carried out on behalf of GFTV, including photography or videography for publication, interviews, organised deployment of personnel, or the use of GFTV branding in a media capacity.
Official coverage is also referred to as Special Coverages (SCs).
No assumption of coverage
GFTV does not conduct coverage based on assumption.
Official coverage only takes place after prior contact with organisers and mutual agreement.
Attendance by any GFTV personnel does not imply coverage, deployment, or recording on behalf of GFTV.
GFTV personnel may attend events in a personal capacity and may take photographs or recordings as part of normal participation.
Personal recording does not constitute official GFTV coverage.
Assumptions made without prior consultation are incorrect and may lead to misunderstandings. We encourage direct clarification where needed.
Our coverage process
When GFTV intends to conduct official coverage, we will contact organisers in advance, understand event policies, and agree on how coverage will be conducted. We will respect event requirements where appropriate.
Coverage becomes official only after this process is completed.
Public spaces and reporting
GFTV respects private events. Activities in public spaces remain subject to general public rights under applicable law.
Under Singapore law, individuals generally do not have a reasonable expectation of privacy in public spaces. Photography and recording in such spaces are typically permitted, subject to applicable restrictions.
The Personal Data Protection Act 2012 (PDPA) allows the collection of publicly available personal data, including images captured in public spaces, subject to applicable conditions.
GFTV may conduct reporting in public spaces as part of its independent media work. This includes on-site reporting, interviews with members of the public, and the use of GFTV-branded equipment.
Public reporting is independent media activity conducted in accordance with applicable law.
It does not require organiser approval when conducted in public spaces. Where appropriate, GFTV may engage organisers out of courtesy.
The presence of GFTV personnel or equipment does not imply event coverage or affiliation with any organiser.
GFTV conducts its activities in accordance with applicable law.
Furry conventions and announced coverage
For larger events such as conventions, GFTV may list events in its Furry Convention Status Tracker (FURST), inform its communities of planned presence, and contact organisers in advance.
Coverage is treated as official only after these steps are completed.
Independence and responsibility
GFTV operates independently under Article 6 of the GFTV Charter.
We respect event requirements. However, we do not accept any condition that compromises our independence or places GFTV under external direction.
No prior agreement, no official coverage. No external control, no compromise of independence.
GFTV conducts its work based on editorial judgment and in accordance with its published standards.
Our position
GFTV does not operate on assumption. We communicate directly, follow defined processes, and respect both organisers and the public.
We expect organisers and participants to engage with us on this basis.
