Within Global Furry Television (GFTV) Communities, members sometimes use the phrase “Takagi when?”.
To outsiders, the phrase may sound unusual. But for many within the community, it has become a light-hearted way of expressing friendship, encouragement, and belonging.
Over time, “Takagi” evolved from a simple joke into a small piece of shared culture within GFTV’s communities.
“Takagi” originally came from ramen
“Takagi” refers to Takagi Ramen, a ramen chain in Singapore.
During 2024, GFTV founder Pawsry frequently visited Takagi Ramen — sometimes three to four times a week. Members of the community soon noticed this habit and began joking about it.
The use of the word “Takagi” in GFTV communities is purely informal community culture and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to Takagi Ramen or its business.
The birth of “Takagi when”
On 25 July 2024, GFTV team member Jibby jokingly asked:
“Takagi when?”
The phrase meant:
“When are you going to Takagi again?”
Other members soon adopted the phrase, and some even began visiting Takagi Ramen themselves.
When a noun became a verb
As the joke spread, the word “Takagi” gradually evolved in playful ways within the community. Originally a noun referring to the ramen shop, began using it as a verb.

Later, a GFTV community member mentioned that he hoped to visit Singapore to try Takagi Ramen.
In response, Pawsry jokingly replied along the lines of:
“I can takagi you.”
Although said playfully, the phrase added another layer of meaning to the word “Takagi”.
Context changes the meaning of “Takagi”
Within GFTV Communities today, “Takagi” can carry different meanings depending on context. This is a result of the word evolving organically within the community.
It may refer to:
- going to eat together
- hanging out together
- appreciating someone / something
- wanting to become friends
- encouraging one another

A word of encouragement
Over time, “Takagi” also began appearing when members felt sad, stressed, or discouraged.
In those moments, phrases like:
“We will takagi together.”
became a way for members to encourage one another and remind each other that the community stands together.
The versatility of “Takagi when”
The ubiquity of “Takagi when” mingled with the multicultural, multilingual environment in GFTV’s Communities, led to poeple creating new words with it in other languages.
This is especially prevalent with agglutinative languages like Tagalog and Malay, where “Takagi” was directly conjugated to form new meanings.
