In Taiwan’s Tainan City on March 9 (Saturday), 29 furries marched around the Shin Kong Mitsukoshi Tainan Zhongshan Store in a flashmob fursuit parade.

The event is held by local furry group Furryday (Chinese: 獸曜日 (T) 兽曜日 (S) / Japanese:じゅうようび).

Furries first gathered outside the shopping mall, before walking up the building floor by floor in small groups.

Many staff and members of the public interacted cheerfully with the fursuiters.

The main goal of this is to promote furry culture, organisers at Furryday said.

Speaking to FurTimes, Worster Wolf (沃斯特) says he specially came from another county to attend this event, because fursuit photography is usually not allowed in shopping malls.

Another attendee, Kouta (晃汰), says it’s fun to see fursuiters interacting with staff in the shopping mall.

But he expressed concern, recalling an instance as a fursuiter’s eyelid dropped onto the escalators.

Many attendees have complained about the venue’s rather constrained space.

Despite so, fursuiters Paroto (帕洛特) and Yuuki Amami (悠树) says they will still attend if the event is held again.

Another attendee, Mi Tang (米糖), says even though this is a flashmob event, the event’s pace felt rushed, making them feel confused about its purpose.

Attendee Freed (弗里德) suggests arming event support staff with walkie talkies to enhance on-site coordination.

At the fourth floor of the shopping mall sits a specialty shop selling Japanese sake. They gave some space for the attendees, expanding the event area.

For that, one of the organisers, Wu Mi (乌咪) and Yiakura (小歪), thanked the shop for their help.

But because the event was prepared on short notice, the staff pool was small.

The team did not have time to properly introduce themselves and the event for those unfamiliar, too.

Organisers at Furryday say their team is open to those interested to help out.

Furryday will hold their next event after the mid-autumn festival, says organiser Iceheart (冰心).

Organisers at Furryday plan to hold a variety of events, though for now there is no fixed schedule for that.

Ultimately, the events aim to open opportunities for others to learn about furries, and bring forth Tainan City for the attendees too.
