Leaders, team, and everyone here — let’s stop pretending.
We were told this fandom is accepting and safe. It isn’t. You are accepted until you stop fitting.
For more than ten years, GFTV reported the news. We saw the best of this fandom, but we also saw the worst. We lived through it ourselves.
And we decided one thing: we will not build that kind of place.
This year, I will say it plainly. We went through danger. We went through humiliation. We went through pressure that nearly broke people. And we are still here.
Furries talked about us. They questioned how we lead. They questioned whether we deserved to lead.
One person compared himself to me directly. More IQ, more EQ, more money, more qualifications — therefore they’re more fit to lead.
Then it went further.
If GFTV ever tried to run a convention, we were told they would make sure it would not happen. That was not advice. That was not accountability. That was threat dressed as superiority.
Leadership is not status. Popularity is not worth. We measure character, and we protect dignity.
Then came the incident that changed everything. He fainted from heat in front of people. Furries asked him to apologise. They said he inconvenienced others. They said people were there to have fun.
We stepped in to help him. We gave him first aid. We said this reaction was wrong. Furries attacked us. They said we were enabling him.
It did not stop there. The pressure followed him after the event. It stayed on him. His health worsened. He later disclosed a rare condition, and he lives with pain that many people never saw.
We stayed with him through it.
While he was dealing with that, nothing changed outside. Furries kept mocking him. Furries kept calling him a problem. In one chat, the words were, “We see a problem, we remove the problem before it becomes a Problem.”
Then came worse lines: “wipe the hospital records,” “silence his primary school teachers,” and “Delete the bloodline.” This was said about a person who needed care.
No one asked if he was okay – no one!
I saw all of that. I spoke up. I said this was wrong.
And I had to ask myself: since when is helping someone survive called enabling?
After all these years doing the news, I did not expect this from the furry community — a community that says everyone matters. And yet, this happened.
That was the moment I understood something clearly. We have to stand on our own feet. We can no longer rely on that community.
So we decided: We do not leave people when it gets hard. We stay with them.
That decision made us who we are now. It became our Framework for Community Care. It became our discipline.
It became our answer to a community that talks about inclusion but treats difficult people as liabilities.
It became our reason to build PolicySpot, strengthen our rules, and make our standards clear enough that nobody has to guess whether dignity matters here.
We also saw the same pattern elsewhere.
Someone said “good morning” daily. Furries screenshotted it and mocked him.
A minor was targeted and isolated in wider furry spaces. People made remarks about his intelligence and his parents.
People who were already struggling were told they were the reason they were outcasted. Then someone came to us and said, “people in GFTV continuously get outcasted,” “because they don’t listen to criticism,” and “enabling them is not how you do it.”
That was the gaslighting. Furries pushed people out. Those people came to GFTV spaces. We gave them shelter. Then we were told we were enabling them.
No. We were protecting them.
We did not expose the minor’s full pain to his parents. We did not turn his life into a case file. We simply stayed with him.
We supported him through school, through bad days, and through moments where he needed people around him. Our community stayed with him online and in person. His parents came to our events. They saw how we treated him. They made their own judgement.
One year later, his father said, “thank you very very much for helping us look out for him.” He said it was “very meaningful” for his son to be with us.
That is not branding. That is proof.
And our people changed too. The ones who were once shaken became steadier. The ones who were once afraid started leading.
One person who went through serious psychological deterioration later stood up and helped lead a cross-border event under Project Starlight.
Think about that. From being pushed down by this environment, to building something across countries.
That is what care can do.
Project Starlight was not just an expansion plan. It was survival turning into movement. It was us saying that if one environment becomes too cold, we will build warmth elsewhere.
We crossed borders. We connected people. We showed that a Singapore-based furry organisation can stand, care, and build beyond fear.
And through all of this, we built culture too. The small jokes. The ramen meme.
The small things that gave people reasons to laugh when the rest of the world felt heavy. These things may look small from outside. They were not small to us. They helped people stay alive.
Article 6 taught us to stay independent. FCC taught us to care without surrendering discipline. Project Starlight taught us to look outward. Together, they became our answer: we do not follow popularity. We build spaces where people can live with dignity.
We were judged before we were known. Stories spread before we spoke. We were pressured to stay quiet. We were made to feel like we caused what happened to us. We rejected that.
Today, we are still here.
Not because it was easy. Not because we were untouched. But because people chose to stay.
To the families — thank you. You saw your children here. You trusted what you saw. You gave us the strength to keep going.
To the team — thank you. You carried weight people will never fully see. You stayed when it was difficult. You stood when it mattered.
To our community — thank you. You believed in this place when it was easier to walk away.
We are here because you stayed.
A Part To Play is not just a slogan. It is responsibility. Every one of you has a part to play in building this place into our home, because you chose to care.
Twelve years ago, we started with belief.
Today, we stand with proof.
Happy 12th birthday, GFTV.
Now — play your part.
